Fish Khichri Saas | Saas ni Macchi with Khichri






Ingredients for Khichri (3-4 servings):
  • Rice - 4 Cups
  • Masoor (orange) Dal - 3 Cups
  • Ghee - 3-4 Tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Tumeric Powder - 1/2 Tsp
Ingredients for Sauce :
  • Oil - 4-5 Tbsp
  • Green Chillies - 4-5 
  • Garlic - 10-12 Cloves 
  • Cumin Seeds - 2 Tbsp 
  • Onions - 2
  • Ginger Paste - 1/2 Tsp
  • Tomatoes - 1-2
  • Corn Flour - 2 Tbsp
  • Rice Flour - 2 tbsp
  • Black Vinegar - 5-6 Tbsp
  • Sugar - 2-3 Tbsp
  • Fish - 5-6 Pieces 
  • Corriander leaves - 1/2 cup
  • Spices -
         Kashmiri chilli powder - 1 Tsp
         Tumeric Powder - 1/2 tsp

Method for Khichri :
  • Mix the masoor dal and rice and wash it well.
  • Soak it for about half an hour
  • Add atleast 5-6 cups of water and let it boil.
  • Add Ghee , Salt and Tumeric Powder and let it boil on high flame till the water level and the rice level is the same .
  • Now cover the lid and lower the flame and cook till the rice is completely dry and done.
Method for Saas :
  • Marinate the fish with kashmiri chilli powder, tumeric powder and salt and keep aside for half an hour. 
  • Heat oil in a utensil and add the paste of green chillies , garlic and cumin seeds and let it fry for 2 minutes.
  • Add finely chopped onions and fry them till they are soft and translucent.
  • Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook till they are soft.
  • Add the ginger paste and fry for 2 minutes . 
  • Add rice flour and corn flour and fry for a minute.
  • Gradually add water (around 3-4 glasses) in such a way that no lumps are formed .
  • Once it starts boiling , add the vinegar and sugar to it.
  • Add the marinated fish to it and cook for 10-12 minutes till the fish is done .
  • Finally , add finely chopped corriander and the saas is good to serve !
