Pulav Daar
Pulav dal is a favourite traditional food of Parsis served at weddings ,
birthdays , anniversaries etc. It is a combination of flavourful rice cooked
with meat and combined with spicy dal. Let us a have a look at it's recipe !
Ingredients for Pulav (4 Servings) :
- Rice - 7-8 Cups
- Whole Garam Masalas -
Cinamon (Tej) - 5 inch piece
Clove (Laung) - 8-10
Whole Black Pepper - 10-12
Black Cardamom (Badi Elaichi) - 3
Green Cardamom (Chhoti Elaichi) - 5-6
Shahjeera - 1 Tbsp
- Onions - 4-5
- Ginger Paste - 1 Heaped Tbsp
- Garlic - 10-12 Cloves
- Cumin Seeds - 1 Tbsp
- Tomato - 1
- Potatoes - 2-3
- Chicken - 500 g
- Coriander - 1/2 Cup
- Green Chillies - 4-5
- Milk - 1/2 Cup
- Juice of 1 Lemon
- Sugar - 2 Tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Powdered Spices -
Dhanajeera Powder - 1 Tsp
Garam Masala powder - 1 Tsp
Ingredients for Daar :
- Tur Dal - 1 1/2 Cup
- Onions - 2-3
- Tomato - 1
- Kashmiri Chillies - 2
- Green Chillies - 2
- Cumin seeds - 1 Tbsp
- Garlic - 10 Cloves
- Ginger Paste - 1 Tsp
- Coriander - 1/2 Cup
- Powdered Spices -
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Tsp
Dhaanajeera Powder - 1 Tsp
Sambhar Powder - 1 Tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 1 Tsp
Method for Pulav :
- Wash the rice and soak it in water for about half an hour.
- Add oil in a pressure cooker , heat it and add finely chopped Garlic and the Whole Garam masalas , cumin seeds and finely chopped green chillies and fry them for 2 minutes.
- Add sliced Onions to it and fry them till they are golden-brown.
- Add salt , sugar , ginger paste and finely chopped tomatoes and cook them till they are soft.
- Add the powdered spices and cook them till the oil separates from the spices.
- Add Chicken to it and pressure cook it with 2 glasses of water for 3 whistles and later on low flame for 15 minutes.
- Add the washed rice , juice of lemon , milk and chopped potatoes to the cooker and cook it again for 1 whistle and 5 minutes.
- Garnish it with some fried onions and coriander (optional).
Method for Daar :
- Heat oil in a cooker and add finely chopped garlic , green chillies , Kashmiri chillies , cumin seeds and finely chopped onions to it.
- Cook it till the onions turn golden-brown.
- Add salt , sugar and ginger paste to it.
- Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook them until they are soft.
- Add the powdered spices to it till the oil separates from them.
- Add tur dal to it with 2 cups of water and pressure cook it for 4 whistles and after that cook it on low flame for 20 minutes.
- After the pressure from the cooker is released , add finely chopped coriander.
