Red Fish Curry
Red Fish Curry is a tasty dish that is had universally by people around the
world , irrespective of their race or religion . It takes around an hour for
the preparation and cooking of this dish. It is usually had with rice and
tastes good with Kachumber (mixture of chopped onions , cucumbers ,tomatoes ,
corriander etc). If you are a vegetarian , you can add Potatoes instead of
fish. Now , let us have a look at it's recipe !
Ingredients (4 Servings) :
- Coconut - 1/2
- Onions - 3
- Tomatoes - 2
- Kashmiri Chillies - 6
- Green Chillies - 2
- Garlic - 7-8 cloves
- Ginger Paste - 1 Tbsp
- White Til Seeds - 1 Tbsp
- Poppy Seeds (Khus-Khus) - 1 Tbsp
- Roasted Peanuts - 1 Fistful
- Desiccated Coconut (Khaman) - 1 Tbsp
- Coconut oil - 5-6 Tbsp
- Whole Garam Masalas - Cinamon stick (2 inches) , Green cardamom (3) , Clove (5-6) , Black pepper (7-8)
- Fish - 250 g
- Gram Flour (Besan) - 3-4 Tbsp
- Curry leaves - 3-4 Stems
- Powdered spices - Kashmiri Chilli powder (1 Tsp) , Tumeric Powder (1/2 Tsp) , Dhaanajeera Powder (1 Tbsp)
- Sugar - 1 Tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Cumin Seeds - 1 Tbsp
- Tamarind - 1 piece (3 inches)
Method :
- Heat coconut oil in a utensil and add the whole garam masalas , til seeds , poppy seeds , peanuts , Kashmiri Chillies , green chillies , tamarind , garlic , ginger paste , cumin seeds , sliced onions , sliced tomatoes , desiccated coconut , coconut to it and fry till the onions and tomatoes and 3/4th cooked.
- Let it cool and add it to a mixer and grind it to a smooth paste.
- Marinate the Fish with Kashmiri Chilli Powder , Tumeric Powder , Dhaanajeera Powder and Salt.
- Let it rest for around half and hour.
- In the meantime , add some more coconut oil to the utensil and heat it.
- After it is reasonably hot , add the curry leaves and gram flour , and fry on low flame till the gram flour turns golden-brown.
- Add the ground paste to it and cook it on low flame , stirring it continuously for 15 minutes.
- Add an appropraite amount of water to get it to the correct consistency and boil it on medium flame.
- Once it begins to boil , add the marinated fish and cook it for 10-15 minutes , till the fish is cooked.
