Batata Vada
Batata vada is a tasty Maharashtrian dish but is relished by many people. It
can be had as Vada Paw or Batata Vada with coconut chutney and sambhar or just
by itself. It is a common street food in Mumbai but if you are health
conscious , you can also make it at home and tastes just as delicious as the
ones served at the streets. Let us have a look at its recipe.
Ingredients (Makes 6-7 Vadas) :
- Potatoes - 3-4
- Green Chillies - 3-4
- Curry Leaves - 3 stems
- Cumin Seeds (Jeera) - 1 Tsp
- Mustard Seeds (Rai) - 1 Tbsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Dhanajeera Powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Ginger Paste - 1/2 Tsp
- Garlic - 3-4 Cloves
- Coriander - 1/4 Cup
- Salt to Taste
- Oil to deep fry
- Gram Flour (Besan) - 1 small cup
- Ajwain - 1/2 Tsp
Method :
- Boil the peeled potatoes and keep aside.
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a small utensil and add green chillies , garlic , curry leaves , mustard seeds , cumin seeds , ginger paste , turmeric powder and dhanajeera powder to it and fry them on low flame for 3-4 minutes.
- Add salt to the boiled potatoes and mash them thoroughly.
- Add the fried mixture to it.
- Add finely chopped coriander leaves and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
- in the meanwhile , make a thick batter of gram flour , a bit of turmeric powder , ajwain and salt.
- Make balls out of the potato mixture of the desired size , dip kit in the batter thoroughly and deep fry them on medium flame till they turn golden-brown.
Batata Vadas taste even better when had with chillies that are dipped
in the same batter and fried.
