Chilli Chicken

 

Chilli Chicken is an all time favourite dish of almost everyone. It is the Indianized version of Chinese food.

Ingredients (6 Servings) :
  • Boneless Chicken - 500g 
  • Cornflour - 6-7 Tbsp
  • All purpose flour - 2-3 Tbsp
  • White Vinegar - 3-4 Tbsp
  • Ginger - 2 Inch piece 
  • Ginger Paste - 1 Tsp
  • Garlic - 10-12 cloves
  • Garlic Paste - 1 Tsp
  • Soy Sauce - 2 Tbsp
  • Red Chilli sauce - 3-4 Tbsp
  • Black Pepper Powder - 1-2 Tbsp
  • Green Chillies - 4
  • Capsicum - 3
  • Onions - 2-3
  • Eggs - 2
  • Spring Onions - 3-4
  • Sugar - 1-2 Tbsp
  • Tomato Ketchup - 1-2 Tbsp
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to taste 
Method :
  • Cut the boneless chicken into 1 inch cubes and add the eggs , all-purpose flour , 4 Tbsp cornflour , salt , 2 Tbsp white vinegar , ginger paste and garlic paste and 1 Tbsp black pepper powder to it.
  • Mix them thoroughly and marinate them for half an hour.
  • In the meantime , take a bowl and add 1 cup water to it and 3 Tbsp cornflour ,  soy sauce , red chilli sauce , sugar  1-2 Tbsp white vinegar and 1 Tbsp black pepper powder and mix it thoroughly. Now, leave this gravy mixture aside.
  • Now deep fry the marinated chicken cubes till they are soft from inside and golden-brown in colour. Keep it aside
  • Now , in another kadhai , add 3-4 tbsp oil and heat it on high flame. Lower the flame and add finely chopped ginger , garlic and whole slit green chillies to it and let them fry for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add onions and capsicums cut into 1 inch pieces and let it fry for about 10 minutes on low flame till the onions become translucent.
  • Add a pinch of salt to it.
  • Add the gravy mixture to it , stir it well and add 2 cups of water to it. (If you want more gravy , add one more cup of water to it.)
  • Stir it continuously till the gravy thickens to the desired consistency.
  • Add the fried chicken to it and let it cook for another 5-7 minutes on low flame.
If you follow the steps well , it will taste exactly like the chilli chicken served at restaurants.
