Puran Poli
Puran Poli is a Maharashtrian sweet dish made on occasions and festivals. It
tastes better when it is served hot. Let us have a look at it's recipe !
Ingredients (Makes 6 Puran Polis) :
- Wheat Flour - 3-4 Cups
- Jaggery - 1/2 Cup
- Sugar - Depending on your taste
- Cardamom Powder - 1 Tsp
- Nutmeg Powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Tur Dal - 1- 1 1/2 cup
- Salt - 1-2 Pinches
- Ghee - 2-3 Tbsp
Method :
- Pressure cook the tur dal with little water (a little more than the sinking level) (the quantity of water should be enough to form a ball out of the tur dal AFTER it is cooked) for 3 whistles and 10 minutes.
- After the pressure from the cooker is released , take it out and mash it.
- Add jaggery , sugar , cardamom powder and nutmeg powder to it and keep it aside.
- Take the wheat flour , add ghee , water , salt to it and make a dough out of it.
- Leave the dough aside for 15 minutes.
- The quantity of dough taken for each poli should be more than the quantity taken for a chapati.
- Roll each dough till it forms a circle of 4-5 cm in diameter.
- Make smaller balls of puran (tur dal mixture) for each poli.
- Place each ball of puran in the centre of the poli and gently pull and stretch the dough upwards from its sides so that the puran is covered completely and a bit extra dough remains on top.
- Twist the top the dough , then flatten it and roll it to it's desired form and size.
- Heat a tava and put each puran poli on it and roast it a little bit of ghee on both sides till it is done.
