Bhatia Chicken (Dry Chicken with Potatoes)
If you want to make a chicken dish that is very easy, requires the least
ingredients yet is extremely delicious , Bhatia Chicken is the ideal dish to
cook. It is a Parsi dish that many people carry as a packed lunch for long
journeys as there are no chances of spilling . Many dishes require gravy for
it to taste good , but Bhatia chicken will leave you licking your fingers
inspite of the lack of gravy. My great grandmother from Nargol used to make
this lovely dish quite often and the recipe has passed down 3 generations from
her to me. It tastes equally good with bread and chapati. Let us have a look
at its recipe.
Ingredients (3 Servings) :
- Chicken - 500 g
- Potatoes - 3-4
- Ginger Paste - 1 Tsp
- Kashmiri Chilli Powder - 1 Tsp
- Salt to Taste
- Oil - 5-6 Tbsp
Method :
- Heat oil in a utensil and after the oil is hot enough , add ginger paste to it and fry it for 2 minutes.
- Add Kashmiri Chilli Powder and fry it again for 2 minutes.
- Peel the potatoes and cut each potato into 4 pieces.
- Now , add the chopped potatoes , chicken and salt and cover it with a lid , without any water inside or on top of the lid. ( You can add 2-3 Tbsp of water periodically if the chicken or potato sticks to the pan)
- Cook it for around 20 - 30 minutes till the chicken and potatoes are done.
Bhatia Chicken tastes good with potato straws (Sali).
