Kanda Poha

Kanda Poha also known as Kande Pohe is a dish relished by people across India , especially in Maharashtra. Kanda means onions and Poha means flattened rice. It is commonly had for breakfast and people enjoy having it as an evening snack too. It is an easy-to-make dish takes little time for preparation and is really delicious. Let us have a look at its recipe.

Ingredients (1 Serving) :
  • Poha (Flattened Rice) - 1 bowl
  • Onions - 1
  • Green Chillies - 1-2
  • Curry Leaves - 1-2 Stems
  • Mustard Seeds (Rai) - 1 Tsp
  • Peanuts - 10-15
  • Coriander - 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/4th Tsp
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt to Taste
  • Sugar - 1/2 Tsp
  • Lemon juice of 1/2 lemon
Method :
  • Wash the poha in water for around a minute and then leave it aside to remove the excessive water from it.
  •  Heat oil in a utensil and add peanuts to it.
  • After 2-3 minutes , add finely chopped green chillies , curry leaves and mustard seeds and let them fry for 2-3 minutes.
  • Now , add the finely chopped onions to it and let them fry.
  • After the onions are halfway done , add salt and sugar to it so that the onions soften and get a little caramelised.
  • After the onions turn golden-brown , add turmeric powder to it and let it cook for about 2 minutes and then add finely chopped coriander leaves to it.
  • Now add the soaked and drained poha to it , mix all the ingredients well until the poha turns yellow due to the turmeric powder and let it cook for around 2-3 minutes.
  • Turn off the stove and add some lemon juice to it. (If you add the lemon juice before turning off the stove , there are chances of the poha to taste a little bitter)
Poha tastes best when it is served hot. It can also be served with some farsan. (Particularly Sev Gathiya)
