Chocolate Cake

Chocolate cake
Cakes are made in a variety of flavours but Chocolate is the eternal favourite. Let us have a look at its recipe.

Ingredients :

  • Self raising Flour (Maida) - 300 g
  • Cocoa Powder - 1 cup
  • Baking Powder - 1 Tbsp
  • Eggs - 2
  • Sugar - 1 Cup
  • Vanilla Essence - 1/2 Tsp
  • Fresh Cream/Whipping Cream - 1/4 Cup
  • Dark Chocolate - 1 big Slab (200g)
  • Butter - 50 g
  • Salt - 1 pinch
  • Baking Soda - 1/4 Tsp (Optional)
Method:
  • Add eggs , sugar and vanilla essence in a bowl and beat them with a beater for 3-4 minutes, till it thickens a bit.
  • Add self raising flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cocoa powder in a separate bowl and mix them thoroughly.
  • Add the egg mixture to the flour and once again mix it thoroughly.
  • Add melted butter and mix it once again.
  • Put the bowl in the oven at 180 degrees and bake it for 40-45 minutes. (Insert a toothpick in the centre of the cake and if it comes out clean, the cake is well baked.)
  • Let it cool to room temperature.
  • Meanwhile, make the ganache by melting dark chocolate . In order to melt the chocolate, boil water in a big utensil. Now, take a small utensil , break the chocolate in it and insert the small utensil in the big utensil and stir it till the chocolate totally melts.
  • Now, remove the small utensil with the chocolate in it and add fresh cream/whipping cream to make it a thick mixture. The ganache is now ready.
  • Pour the ganache all over the cake, even to the sides, to coat it completely.
  • Let it cool and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  • I have decorated it with Hershey's Kisses chocolate and colourful sprinkles.

If one wants to decorate it with icing, mix 50-100 g  butter at room temperature (depending on the quantity of icing to be prepared) and 1/2 cup castor sugar and beat them thoroughly with a beater, to make it fluffy. You can use an icing bag with a nozzle of the shape of your choice in order to decorate the cake. The picture below is of a cake made by us with icing on top of it.
