South Indian Rasam
Rasam is a South Indian dish which can be had with rice or as an immunity
boosting soup. It has a sweet and tangy taste and doesn't take much time to
cook. Let us have a look at its recipe.
Ingredients (4 Servings) :
- Tamarind (Imli) - 2 pieces (whole)
- Tomato - 1
- Oil - 4-5 Tbsp
- Garlic - 1 whole bulb
- Cumin Seeds (Jeera) - 1 1/2 Tbsp
- Green Chillies - 2-3
- Curry leaves - 2-3 Stems
- Coriander leaves - 1/2 Cup
- Kashmiri Chillies - 2
- Fenugreek (Methi) Seeds - 1 Tsp
- Black Pepper powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Kashmiri Chilli Powder - 1 Tsp
- Jaggery - 1 Tbsp
- Salt to Taste
- Asafoetida (Hing) - 2 Pinches
Method :
- Soak tamarind and finely chopped tomatoes in a glass of water for half an hour.
- Now, squeeze and remove the pulp of the tamarind in the water and also squeeze the tomato in the same water.
- Add peeled garlic , roughly chopped green chillies , cumin seeds, curry leaves, and fenugreek seeds in a pestle and grind it roughly.
- Heat oil in a utensil and add Kashmiri Chillies and fry them for a minute.
- Now , add the roughly ground mixture to it and fry it for around 2-3 minutes.
- Add Turmeric powder, Kashmiri Chilli powder and Black pepper powder to it and fry them for a minute.
- Now add water containing tomato and tamarind to the mixture and boil it for around 5 minutes.
- Add jaggery, coriander leaves and salt and boil them for another 5 minutes.
