Layered Jelly and Custard
Layered Jelly and custard is a quick and easy dessert that requires very few
ingredients. This dessert is especially enjoyed during summer as jelly gives a
cooling effect to the body. It can be served with chopped fruits of your
choice. In the below recipe, I have made the vanilla custard myself , but you
can also use the ready made custard mix packets that are available in a
variety of flavours. The combination of vanilla custard with strawberry jelly
tastes best, but you can experiment with your own combinations too. Let us
have a look at its recipe.
Ingredients (3 servings) :
- Milk - 500 ml
- Cornflour - 3-4 Tbsp
- Sugar - 1/2 Cup
- Vanilla Essence - 1/4 Tsp
- Strawberry/Raspberry flavoured instant Jelly mix - 1/4 Packet
Method :
- Bring the milk to a boil and lower the flame.
- Add sugar to it and let it melt.
- After it melts, 1/4th cup of warm milk and add the cornflour to it, stirring it continuously till it is dissolved in the milk.
- Now, gradually add this mixture to the boiling milk, stirring it continuously to see that no lumps are formed. Keep stirring it continuously on low flame till the milk thickens to a custard consistency. Add vanilla essence to it and mix well. (Remember that even after turning off the stove, the milk will thicken even more)
- After 2 minutes, fill 3/4th of each bowl and let it cool down to room temperature.
- Meanwhile, to make jelly, boil 150-200 ml water and add the the instant jelly mix and let it boil for a minute till the mix dissolves completely.
- Let it cool down for 5-10 minutes and carefully pour it, seeing that it forms a layer over the custard.
- After it comes down to room temperature, refrigerate it for at least 2-3 hours.
