Chapat

Chapat
Chapat is a Parsi sweet dish which can be had as a tea time snack or as a dessert. It is like a Parsi version of Pancake. Have a look at its recipe.

Ingredients (8 pieces):

  • All purpose flour (Maida) - 1 small cup
  • Milk - 3/4th - 1 cup
  • Egg - 1
  • Green Cardamom (chhoti elaichi) powder - 1/4th tsp
  • Chironji (charoli) - 1-2 tsp
  • Castor sugar - 3/4th cup
  • Baking soda - 1-2 pinches
  • Vanilla essence - 6-7 drops
  • Oil/ghee for frying
Method:
  • Beat the egg in a bowl and add castor sugar and vanilla essence to it. Beat it vigorously and preferably use an electric beater for it.
  • Add all purpose flour to it, mixing it continuously.
  • Make a smooth paste out of it by adding milk gradually. Once all the milk is added, it should reach a runny consistency.
  • Add chironji and green cardamom powder to it and mix well.
  • Heat oil/ghee (1 tbsp per chapat) in a flat tava on medium flame till it is averagely hot. (Make sure it ISN'T too hot)
  • Take little batter at a time and spread it in a way that a thin layer of it is formed.
  • After frying it for 2-3 minutes, cover it with a lid so that the other side gets cooked on it's own, without the need to flip it to the other side.
  • After 2-3 minutes, open the lid and check if it is done. Fold it in half and serve it on a plate and it's good to go!

  1. Pancakes are everyone's favorite whether child or elder. I love pancakes over any dessert. My favorite one is chocolate pancakes as these are so delicious and sweet. Some I have also tried with fruits and dry fruits. I make pancakes for my family every holiday with something different and new. The last time I had this type of pancake in Singapore was at Martabak Manis .
