Khatti Mitthi Marghi - Chicken in Sweet and Sour Gravy
This dish is made with few ingredients, yet tastes delicious like the kind of dish served at Parsi weddings and navjotes. This is my mother's own invented recipe. Have a look at it.
Ingredients ( 3-4 Servings) :
- Chicken - 500 g
- Onions - 3
- Tomatoes - 2
- Tomato Ketchup - 3-4 tbsp
- Sugar - 3 tbsp
- Ginger Paste - 1 tbsp
- Garlic - 7-8 cloves
- Kashmiri Chilli powder - 1 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
- Green chillies - 2-3
- Oil for frying
- Salt to taste
- Curd - 4 tbsp
Method :
- Marinate the chicken with salt, Kashmiri chilli powder, Garam masala powder, ginger paste, curd and tomato ketchup for minimum half and hour. (It would be better if marinated overnight)
- Heat oil in a utensil and add finely chopped garlic and green chillies to it.
- Once the garlic turns brownish, add finely chopped tomatoes to it and fry them till it turns into a smooth paste.
- Add finely chopped onions to it and fry till golden-brown.
- Now, add the marinated chicken to it, cover it with a lid and cook it till halfway done.
- Add 1/2-1 glass water depending on the quantity of gravy you want, cover it with a lid and cook it till it's done.
Tip - You can adjust the sourness and sweetness of the dish by
increasing or decreasing the amount of tomato ketchup and sugar.
