Rai no Papeto
Whenever you need to prepare a quick and simple vegetarian dish with minimum ingredients, Rai no Papeto will always be the dish you want to prepare. This simple but tasty preparation tastes amazing when had along with Puris and sliced onions. NOTE that the preparation for Rai no Papeto is different from Puri Bhaji - you may consider this the Parsi version. Let us have a look at its recipe.

Ingredients (3-4 Servings) :

  • Potatoes - 6-7 (Medium-sized)
  • Mustard Seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds (Jeera) - 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies - 2-3
  • Curry Leaves - 3 stems
  • Compound Asafetida (Hing) - 2-3 pinches
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 - 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - 1/4th cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying
Method :
  • Heat oil in a utensil and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and let them splutter on medium flame.
  • Add finely chopped green chillies and compound asafetida to it and let it fry for a few seconds.
  • Now, turn the flame low and add curry leaves and turmeric powder to it and let them fry for a few seconds.
  • Add the peeled potatoes chopped to cubes in the desired size and salt to it, mix it well and cover it with a lid. Let it cook for around 20 minutes or till the potatoes are well cooked.
  • Add finely chopped coriander leaves to it immediately after turning off the stove and its ready!
You can also prepare this dish by replacing potatoes with Raw Bananas or Suran.
